Is walking on eggshells a feeling, or a skill you got good at without meaning to?

Usually both, the feeling comes first, then you get surprisingly good at anticipating what might set someone off.

It’s a feeling that became a survival skill. You got so good at it, you forgot you were doing it.

It comes from an involuntary need to please or be agreeable. And often, to protect the ones we love. It’s quite a useless skill as it involves dancing around the truth, resisting clarity and genuineness.

    It's a skill I honed over 20 years of a failed marriage.

Personally the eggshells thing only triggers when I begin picking up on negative social cues. Thinking back I think “shrinking” was the chosen mechanism. Basically the same thing.

Not sure I would call it a skill. Plagues me all the time
